What is the difference between an automatic and manual Series?

Note: This FAQ is about a Literotica feature that is in BETA. The feature may not yet be available to all users.

There are two ways for a Literotica Series to be created. A Series can be created automatically based on matching titles of an author’s works, or a Series can be created manually by an author. It’s very important for authors to understand the difference since editing an Automatic Series will permanently convert it to a Manual Series.

Automatic Series

Historically, Literotica Series were created automatically - by matching story titles of each individual author. If a single author has more than one published story title with matching stem text (the first few words of more than one story title are the same), the system will attempt to create a Series for those works. Examples of Automatic Series might include:

“My Story Title Ch. 1” + “My Story Title Ch. 2” = “My Story Title” Automatic Series
“This Story Title Pt 1” + “This Story Title Pt 2” = “This Story Title” Automatic Series

The Literotica system will create these Automatic Series, move the matching stories into the Series, and generate Series meta data (Title, Description, Tags, etc.) on its own.

If an author wants more control over their Series, they can edit an Automatic Series - but any edit will immediately and permanently convert an Automatic Series it to a Manual Series. Once an Automatic Series is converted to a Manual Series, all future works must be manually added to the Series by the author.

Manual Series

A Manual Series is a Series created by an author - or an Automatic Series that an author has edited, thereby converting it to a Manual Series. An Author has full control of Manual Series (there is no automation), from editing the meta data (Title, Description, Introduction, etc.) to adding and removing works inside of the Series. We have a How To Create A Series Tutorial right here in the FAQ.

The most important thing for authors to understand is that Manual Series are fully under your control. You must add future works to a Manual Series yourself, update the meta data as needed, etc. Automatic Series are simple since they do not require you to manage them, but they do not offer the level of control that Manual Series offer.
